Lots going on in the woods since the summer break: We heard at least 5 bat species on our bat walk: Greater horseshoe, Noctule, Common Pipistrelle, Brown long eared and Barbastelle.We have been felling (dead ash and for thinning) and clearing this season's coppice coupe recently, as well as putting out fires, both planned and unplanned. Planned was the Biochar making course with Proper Edges. Unplanned was a campfire that had burnt through the top layer of soil and was continuing to smoulder until the fire service came to put it out (2nd fire in the woods this summer - huge thanks to the Torpoint fire crew).
🦇Bat Walk!🦇 We will be detecting bats in the Mt Edgcumbe end of the woods on Friday 21st August. Meet at Maker Church car park at 8.30pm. Wear sturdy footwear & suitable clothes and bring a torch.
